Music Cafe • Hard-hearted Woman Big Band

The last of my 2023 compositions: My father played trumpet, so I grew up listening to a lot of big bands. This is my take on the genre. I didn't realize at the time how many songs have the name Hard hearted Woman, but this is not that one.

I must have been through this a million times in my mind

must be a woman like mine

She moves through a room, like she's floating on peaches and cream
she shows like a diamond, got a glow that turns most women green
one part angel, one part dream
Everything else is just plain old mean
and there's no get'in way from that hard-hearted woman of mine

I go out with my friends, and she's say's I'm cat'in around
stop after work, she swears I'm a lush on the town
hand over my paycheck, but it ain't never enough
and if she comes up short, she'll sell my stuff

she can cuss like a plumber, and she fights like a ninja queen
Keep's my back on the ropes, but she won't break clean
I don't know if I love her, but I can't seem to let her go
the only thing I really know is
there's no get'in way from the hard-hearted women of mine
